- (archeology) Also known as the Mouseion, or Museum, the Temple of the Muses is most notibly connected with the Great Library of Alexandria. It consisted of an academy of learned men who directed its activities, which included preservation, copying, cataloguing, bibliographic analysis, and textual criticism, a science which virtually originated with the institution.
