SG-1 sat in the briefing room, waiting for a briefing. Daniel asked,

"Anyone know what this is about?"

Sam shook her head and replied, "Your guess is as good as mine. General O'Neill rang me up while I was helping Mark to fix up his Harley."

Daniel asked with a smile, "How're your nieces and nephews?"

She remarked with a grin, "Do you have a couple of hours?!"

Teal'c replied, smiling a little, "We have several hours."

She, still grinning, replied, "Ok... Mark Jr lost the last of his milk teeth, and he came first in his class in Astrophysics. Susan came first in gym. Jake's team won the inter-school hockey championship. Elouise..."

At that moment, Jack and Brightman walked in and the team immediately stood. SG-1 looked at Jack with curious expressions as he remarked,

"If I have to tell you 'at ease' one more time, I'm zatting the lot of you. Sit."

They sat down with Brightman and he began,

"Sorry for interrupting your leave, folks, but something's going down. The Patrolmen found a little girl on the mountain last night. Take it away, Doc."

Brightman nodded before saying, "The girl was found at 0330 hours. She appears to be of around six or seven years of age, but she hasn't spoken yet. She isn't deaf however..."

Jack remarked, "Here's the good part."

Brightman continued with a bemused expression, "The girl's blood work and DNA are indiscernible but they are changing at an almost continuous rate."

Sam asked, "Into what?"

"I don't know, Colonel. This is absolutely impossible."

Daniel asked, "Can we see her?"

She nodded and everyone followed her to the Infirmary.

SG-1 approached a bed, where they saw a blonde haired girl in a hospital gown. She seemed scared on seeing them, so Daniel approached, alone. He sat on her bed and said with a smile,

"Hello, I'm Daniel. What's your name?"

She gazed up at him with a curious expression before smiling.

Jack remarked, "One more member of the Daniel Jackson fan club. Pray, will you be issuing membership cards?"

Daniel ignored him and continued, "Can you tell me your name?"

She frowned slightly before her concentration wandered to the rest of SG-1, and she pointed to them. He glanced at his friends, gesturing to each,

"Ah, I think you've met Jack and Doctor Brightman. That's Sam and that's Teal'c."

She held onto Daniel's arm and looked at them shyly as each of them waved, nodded or greeted her. She still held onto his arm as Brightman took another blood sample, and the rest of SG-1 decided to leave.

He looked down at the girl and noticed that she began to blink slowly, still not releasing his arm. He gently eased her back onto the pillow, and with equal tenderness, extricated his arm from her surprisingly strong hold. He smoothed her brow while she slept, and Brightman remarked with a smile,

"My, Doctor Jackson, you're a natural."

Daniel blushed and replied as he got up to leave, "I just wish that Sha're and I could have had a chance."

Brightman gazed at him, a hint of sadness in her eyes as she put a hand on his arm and said, "I'm sure you would've been great."

He smiled sadly as he took another look at the girl, before silently leaving.
