On an idyllic far flung Irish island, night had drawn her veil across the sky, leaving only the huge full moon as the only light. A man crossed a field, on his way home from the Pub, alternately humming and singing, "Oh Dannyboy", drunkenly.

Suddenly he felt a presence. He spun around and called, "Finbar, is that you? What the feck d'you think you're doing!?"

In front of him appeared a figure in a hooded black robe, and he peered at it through the drunken haze, and asked, "Fionnuala?"

He stared in horror, unable to shout out, when the figure extended a hand and crushed the man's windpipe in one go.

SG-1 were sat around the briefing table with General Hammond. Doctor Fraiser stood at the front of the room, where she addressed the assembled personnel and pointed at slides.

"This is one of a series of similar murders on Craggy Island, just off the Irish mainland. Angus O'Connor's corpse was found by a dairy farmer in Crook's Field at around 0600 hours EST. The body had undergone total exsaguination and the method of murder looks to be strangulation by a single human hand."

O'Neill, confused, asked, "Excuse me, exsaguination? What is that in English?"

Carter piped up, "Sir, it means that Mr O'Connor was completely drained of his blood."

O'Neill raised an eyebrow in surprise, Daniel stared with his characteristic blank face, and Teal’c cocked an eyebrow.

Hammond said, "Doctor, continue."

"Mr O'Connor had a extremely high blood alcohol level, and locals have reported that he left the local bar at 2330. On first glance, it would appear that the time of death was around midnight local time. This links with a series of similar murders in the area - lonely middle aged men, usually drunk, and all with crushed windpipes. The only clues are the pressure marks around the neck."

O'Neill asked Hammond, "With all respect General, why are we here? Isn't this the kind of stuff Mulder and Scully deal with?"

"Due to the possible alien involvement and SG-1's vast experience with off-world assignments, you are to go there to assess the situation and cover-up any alien activity. If there are aliens involved, then you will be able to deal with them. Your plane leaves in one hour and you will be posing as military paranormal investigators. A local parochial house has offered their lodgings for you. Dismissed."

SG-1 and Fraiser arrived at Dublin International Airport, where representatives of the Irish government escorted them to a boat bound for Craggy Island.

They were greeted warmly by Father Ted Crilly. O'Neill looked around at his surroundings and remarked, "I say we put a McDonald's right here - you guys would make a killing."

The quartet were led to Craggy Island Parochial house, where they were introduced to Father Dougal McGuire and Mrs Doyle.

Dougal stammered on seeing Carter, "H-hallo there. Is your br..."

He was about to say something else, but Ted interrupted him with a clap of his hands and said, "So, who's up for tea?"

As if on cue, Mrs Doyle entered the room with a tray laden with tea and biscuits. O'Neill shook his head, and Mrs Doyle said, "Go on."

"No thanks."

"Go on, are you sure?"

"I'm sure, thank you."

"Go on, a cup of tea solves all your problems. If our Lord on the cross could use his arms, he would have had one. Go on."

"No thanks, ma'am."

"Oh you Americans, with your 'ma'am'. Go on, have a bit of cake at least."

"No thank you."

"If you're not hungry, I can wrap it up in some cling film so you can eat it later."

"That's alright, no thank you."

"Just a wee slice. If our Lord on the cross..."

"... is mentioned one more time, I'm going to eat my sunglasses."

"All you had to do was say 'no', Mr O'Neill. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, manners these days!"

Later that night, after they were introduced to Father Jack Hackett, 75 of SG-1 and Doctor Fraiser went upstairs to their shared room.

Daniel, ever selfless, insisted on helping Mrs Doyle tidy up in the kitchen. The two of them talked as they worked:

"How did you get to be with that lot of miseries, Mr Jackson?"

"Well, I taught Archaeology and Linguistics at the University of Colorado, but I was always interested in police work. It's been exciting. So, how did you end up working here?"

"Ah well, that's kind of an involved story. My Seamus passed away ten years ago and the heavenly Lord showed me the way to Craggy Island, where I got this job. I can't imagine life without those three boys."

"Okaay."

"So, is there a Mrs Jackson?"

"There was one once, but she died years ago from cancer."

"Ah, the same thing that the Lord sent for my Seamus. Well, you know what they say, when the Lord closes a door, he opens a window. That blonde girl certainly likes you."

"Oh, we're just friends, nothing more. She has feelings for Jack."

"Poor you. You don't want to lose a girl like that for that sinful misery, Lord forgive me. I've seen the way she looks at you."

SG-1 and Fraiser paid a visit to the mortuary, where the latter confirmed her initial diagnosis of strangulation.

She examined the neck wounds and reported into her Dictaphone, "Subject's neck wounds appear to have been made by extreme pressure applied by a single human hand."

As SG-1 waited, O'Neill remarked to Daniel when he yawned, "Late night with Mrs Doyle?"

Daniel ran his fingers through his hair and said, "She has a severe case of verbal diarrhoea. She kept talking about the Lord and odd things."

Carter raised her eyebrows briefly as she suggested, "Well, it's an isolated rural community - perhaps she doesn't come across many strangers."

O'Neill joked, "No, it's not that. It's our Dannyboy with his vulnerable cuteness."

Carter visibly flushed and Teal’c said, "Several of the local girls have expressed an interest in DanielJackson."

Later that night, at the pub, the team went over the day's findings.

Fraiser suggested to the group, "The killer seems to be some sort of an alien with super strength. Maybe the Goa'uld have come here."

O'Neill remarked, "All those millions of light years just to strangle a bunch of loners?"

Carter asked, "Does it necessarily have to be alien? We've seen some pretty strange things."

Teal’c said, "Indeed, MajorCarter, but what can explain this? The strength suggests Naquadah in the blood, and the Tau’ri homeworld does not have Naquadah."

O'Neill suggested, "Demonic possession, anyone? I'm surprised Daniel hasn't said anything. Hey, Danny!"

O'Neill, Teal’c, Carter and Fraiser noticed that Daniel's eyes were closed and he wasn't responding to their calls. Suddenly, he got up and left them, much to their natural confusion.

Daniel ran back to the Parochial house, where he was intercepted by Mrs Doyle, who hid him behind the house.

They sat together in the darkness and she said, "Daniel, you came."

"Yes, so I did."

"Does that mean...?"

"Of course. We have both known loss, pain and suffering."

"But together we can end it. Did you drink your tea?"

"I haven't had a cup for a couple of hours. What's in that stuff?"

She suddenly forced him to drink a cup that appeared seemingly from nowhere.

His eyes glazed over and she asked him, "Now, what are we going to do, my dear?"

"Purge the world of pain, suffering and loss."

She patted his knee and she asked him, "And who will you free?"

He replied, almost robot-like, "O'Neill, my love."

"But not tonight."

Dougal nervously approached Carter in the living room after breakfast.

He asked her, "Are you a cow boy?"

She smiled back at him, having been warned by Ted of Dougal's idiocy, and she replied, "Nope. I don't even own a Stetson. How long have you been a Priest for?"

"I don't know. My Pa just sent me to some school and I came out wearing these clothes. To be honest, I don't believe in all that heaven and hell business."

"Really? That's um interesting."

"Is your bra too tight? Do you wanna loosen it? Don't be shy 'cos of me."

She, disbelieving her ears, managed to stop herself from shooting him, and just ignored him. Suddenly Father Jack crashed into the room, and Dougal exclaimed, "Oh no, he wants his drink!"

Father Jack growled, "Drink! Drink!"

On seeing Carter, he growled, "Woman! Woman!," and was about to advance on her when she aimed her revolver at him. Ted came running into the room to lure the lecherous Priest away from the Air Force Major with a bottle of Whiskey.

Ted apologised to her as she put the gun away, "Sorry about that, Miss Carter; it's his drinking time."

The team noticed that Daniel was acting erratically. He seemed to be following Mrs Doyle around constantly and drinking copious amounts of tea. As no-one else had drunk the tea, Fraiser suspected that perhaps Daniel's tea had been tampered with.

Carter snuck a sample out of the kitchen and Fraiser analysed it.

She reported her results to her colleagues, "The tea contains psychosis-inducing steroids. No wonder Mrs Doyle was so insistent that we drink the tea, but why would she do such a thing, assuming she intentionally did it?"

O'Neill quipped, "Oh yeah, she accidentally tipped steroids into the tea instead of sugar. Suuure."

They tried to stop Daniel from drinking the tea, but the task proved impossible. He began to suspect in his own way that his friends were against him, and he isolated himself from them a lot more. They attempted to physically restrain him but he fought them off, surprising them with his increased strength.

O'Neill remarked, "You wanna stop drinking that tea before your winkle shrinks?"

O'Neill had gone to the Pub with Ted, but came back a little earlier to check on his friends.

He crossed Crook's Field, his Special Forces mind sketching out the route in his head.

Suddenly he felt a presence and spun around, his Glock at the ready. He called out, "Carter? Fraiser? 'Timothy'? Daniel?"

A figure in a huge black hooded robe appeared, and O'Neill trained his firearm on the stranger.

He grabbed his radio and called into it, "Carter? I'm in Crook's Field and..."

The figure stretched out an arm and groped for O'Neill's throat. He shouted into his radio, "Carter! I'm being attacked, over."

He fired at the figure but to no avail.

O'Neill wrestled the figure to the ground but was about to be strangled when Teal’c, Fraiser and Carter appeared, armed with zats. Teal’c shot the figure with a zat and O'Neill moved the hood.

He shone his flashlight into the figure's face and exclaimed in surprise, "Daniel!? What the hell d'you think you're doing?!"

Daniel, obviously not himself, babbled, "Purge the world of pain and loss and suffering. Max the envelope."

Back at the house, O'Neill interrogated everyone, which resulted in him having a near-miss with a bottle of gin.

The Priests genuinely didn't know what was going on, so he interrogated Mrs Doyle. She wouldn't admit to anything, until Carter and Fraiser discovered a huge tank of the steroids under the sink.

She then came clean about wanting to end people's suffering and that she had experienced pain. She had drugged Daniel because she felt sorry for him.

Carter wanted to arrest her, but when the Priests pleaded with her, saying that no-one else could make tea like her, O'Neill decided to confiscate the steroids and use a neuralyser on her (as well as the Priests), allowing her to forget a significant part of her past.

Back at the SGC, Daniel was being weaned off the steroids, and the rest of SG-1 along with Fraiser were congratulated by Hammond for solving the mystery.

Carter paid a visit to Daniel in his quarters, where he was staring at the ceiling.

She sat down on the edge of his bed and talked to him, "Hey Daniel, how're you feeling?"

He replied distractedly, "I can't believe I let myself be used like that."

"It doesn't matter. You're here, you're safe and that's all that matters."

"The killing aside, she understood me. We both knew loss and she made me feel things that I hadn't felt in years."

"That might have been the drugs."

His blue eyes focused on her and he said sincerely, "Sam, I'm sorry if I hurt you."

"What do you mean?"

"When I fought back in my drugged up state."

"Oh."

"What? You sound sad."

"No, never mind. I was thinking of something. Get some sleep. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Sam."

She looked back at him with a lingering smile before leaving, and he whispered, "I love you."
